12 Days of Anime, Day 6: I got 99 problems, but a witch ain’t one

99 problems but a witch aint one

I’ve grown to realize that some of my favorite anime/manga are the type of stories that present themselves as being tied to a particular genre… and then quickly go on to establish themselves as subversions to every trope associated with the genre.

That isn’t to say that all shows that fall into this category are qualified to be counted in my favorites, but twists and surprises like that certainly help an anime stand out.

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…

A sword is a weapon to kill...

One cross-shaped scar…

[First Day]

Haruhi shapes the world...literally

Two godly novels…

[Second Day]

Fanime 2012

Three pals at Fanime…

[Third Day]

Elise Lutus is my loli queen, yup yup

Four Apple Gummis…

[Fourth Day]

Jet, you killjoy!

Five Right Stuf deals…

[Fifth Day]

Madoka will unwrap Ultimate Madoka as a selfcest Christmas present

Six grief seeds, and a partridge in a pear tree!

Ah, the Puella Magi Madoka Magica films! I’ve been waiting for these to come out ever since I got around to finishing the series earlier this year. I honestly fell in love with this series after that. Although I believe that the “depth” of the series is rather exaggerated by fans, the story is without-a-doubt a solid work from Urobuchi.

In the same vein as the Rebuild of Evangelion films, the first couple of films are simply a retelling of the anime series, after that there will be an all-new original story. Rather than a tetralogy, though, the Puella Magi Madoka Magica films are planned to be a trilogy… hopefully that will change though, since I enjoy the series so much that the idea of a fourth film will make me even happier.

I haven’t seen any of the films yet, but I’m pretty damn excited about them. After the third film is released, I hope it’s screened somewhere around my area.

(…i-if I was a Puella Magi, I would have turned into a witch by now. Ugh, bad ideas all around… the despair…)
