“I had thought that an angel fell from the sky.”
Translation: Hubba-hubba! Heaven must be missing an angel.
Fujitaka’s approach to pickup lines in a nutshell. 😛 So yeah, another episode dedicated to showing us how special Sakura and her mother are to Tomoyo and her mom.

I love the festival episodes in this anime, but this pales in comparison to the others. I mean, the others involved crossdressing plays, maid/butler cafés, Suppie going drunk off of sweets, and one ended with a heartwarming Syaoran/Sakura scene. This one? War of the parents with raining flowers.
Still great, though. Insight on Sakura’s family tree is always welcome. And seeing Sakura fail with her baton will never get old. xD

Is everyone from Hong Kong a giant tsuntsun?
Sakura starts her day by attempting to flatter Syaoran, telling him that she thinks his Chinese battle costume was cool and that she saw it in a dream.
Usually when an anime protagonist tells someone of the opposite sex that they “saw him/her in a dream,” they’d take it the wrong way (a la Digimon Tamers, as in a totally bad pickup line). Luckily for Sakura, she’s from a CLAMP series, so premonition dreams can easily be explained to a character that’s savvy with magical powers and whatnot without embarrassing misunderstandings. =P

Finally! Episode 8 is when the series really starts to spice things up with the introduction of our token male tsundere, Syaoran Li.
李 小狼, Li Xiaolang. Known as “little puppy” to his fangirls (and Sakura in my head canon), and a pretty cool dude to the male fans. He starts off providing the role of a rival to Sakura, even more so in the anime where he becomes actual competition for the Clow Cards, and eventually becomes one of Sakura’s most dependable friends (and even more than that).

On this episode of Cardcaptor Sakura, MADHOUSE demonstrates the true meaning of “work of art.”

Haha, if ONLY this was Kero’s true form! :p
By far, one of the sweetest episodes out of the earlier ones. Pretty much any episode that has anything to do with Sakura’s deceased mom watching after her daughter in spirit is guaranteed to be a heartwarming one.

Rain, rain, go away, come again everyday ♫
No, seriously. Some of the Clow Cards look way too adorable to be the sources of abnormal catastrophes. xD;;

“Poses and trademark spells are the basics of being a magical girl!”
Tomoyo definitely is a wonderful friend. 😀 And extremely genre savvy to boot.
It’s not a stretch to say that Tomoyo is the greatest best friend character in any shoujo. No one can top her awesomeness, except for Sakura herself.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the first, second, or tenth time. Watching the first episode of Cardcaptor Sakura and starting the series up again will always be a magical experience! JOIN ME IN RELIVING MY CHILDHOOD.
If there’s one memorable scene from the first episode that reappears throughout the first season, it’s that shot of Sakura’s precognitive dream sequence where she’s standing in front of the Tokyo Tower. Definitely an animation highlight of late 90s shoujo, or anime in general.

Since the start of a few summer anime series have already begun, I guess it’s time to compile a list of the anime that I’m going to (most likely) be blogging about.
I also included a list of anime that I’ll be re-watching and blogging, since the summer season doesn’t seem to be too interesting, in my opinion.

Seriously, I think my inner Cardcaptor Sakura fanboy just squealed in excitement seeing that little CCS!Sakura cameo in this episode. <3 Wait… a CCS!Sakura cameo? What the hell were they thinking?! THAT’S JUST TOO F*CKING AWESOME! >D

“Key that hides the power of the stars, show your true form before me.
I, Sakura, command you under our contract…
Admit it. No one decent in the anime fandom wouldn’t know about Cardcaptor Sakura. It will have, and always has, a place in my heart as the first anime that really touched my heart, and the first anime I love not being able to fully retaliate from a horrible, horrible re-write dub. I’m not even going to mention the crap I know as Cardcaptors after this sentence. Every single episode of the series has given me a warm feeling inside and made me feel good because of the lighthearted, yet well-developed characters and story. You just don’t feel like hating any of the characters… to me at least. The first anime where I really got attached to the characters like never before. It’s right up there next to Shana as my favorite series (Haruhi doesn’t count because it’s everyone‘s favorite 😛 /lawl). “Hoé~” will also always be one of my most beloved character mannerisms, right next to “Uruchsai uruchsai uruchsai!“
MADHOUSE did a great job in animating it too, it looked like they put alot of effort in it like I know they did. I esspecially liked how they reanimated and redrew the spell sequences almost every episode (due to Sakura’s ever-changing outfits) instead of reusing the same stock footage over and over again. That‘s what I call quality work.
Though, I’d say, a big reason to actually watch it is the developement of Sakura and Syaoran’s relationship. Cute couple! Any anime fan who doesn’t know about these two, I’ll personally slap in the back of the head. I liked how Sakura grew from having a childhood crush on Yukito, to realizing that Yukito isn’t her “number one”, to realizing that her number one was Syaoran and how Syaoran delt with his feelings. My only gripe with the series is that it strayed too far from the manga’s ending. I mean, the last volume of the manga pratically focuses on Sakura’s realization of her feelings for Syaoran, while the anime really kind of rushed it at the end and saves Sakura’s confession for the last movie (which was still very good).
Does it look like she’d… well… make it? At least let us see their last embrace in the series to let us know if she’s alive or not! ;; lol
Many thanks to Geneon and Tokyopop for bringing Cardcaptor Sakura some justice in America with a good English dub of the second movie and bringing the manga (not the first edition. The first edition was yuck) to the United States!
