The SOS Brigade will be entering a baseball tournament!
Sup everyone! We’re entering one of the first volumes that comprise of “short” stories. In terms of this book, we have four:
The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya
Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody
Remote Island Syndrome
The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya, the short story that this entire volume is named after, is sort of a filler. It’s a funny chapter about the SOS Brigade’s attempt at baseball, but nevertheless it’s really weak compared to the other Suzumiya Haruhi arcs, mostly because nothing truly jaw-dropping happens. It’s kind of justified though, since the chapter itself is actually the pilot of the series that was published two months in The Sneaker before The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ever came out. So it’s only natural that the most we get from this story are very basic showcases of the cast’s personalities and nothing really spectacular. Also, just in case you were wondering, yes – it’s exactly the same as the anime.
We’re onto the second Suzumiya Haruhi novel now in my series of light novel posts, and I’m still dying to get through all of the adapted stuff so I can talk about material that has yet to become an anime and will probably never become an anime (;_;).
The second novel is the making of the SOS Brigade’s amateur film, “The Adventures of Asahina Mikuru”. You’ve probably seen it in the anime, and of course, it’s not much different.
If you guys have been following this blog since my early high school days (back when I had a sense of humor. 2006? 2007? Man, I don’t even know how long I’ve been around in the anime blogosphere anymore), you may know that not only am I the biggest Cardcaptor Sakura geek out there, but I’m also a gigantic Haruiist. It’s the closest thing I have to a religion besides maybe my strange fascination with Buddhism.
Well, anyways. There’s scarcely ever any new material for Suzumiya Haruhi nowadays. Tanigawa Nagaru hasn’t written a new novel in over three years. Kadokawa hasn’t issued any new anime adaptations by Kyoto Animation because he hasn’t written a new novel in over three years. I’m definitely going to watch the The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan anime adaptation when it airs, but it… just isn’t the same.
The only thing that remotely satisfies my cravings is re-reading the light novels and re-watching the anime. So… here I am. Might as well write about it.
One of the things I love about anime conventions (or any convention for that matter) are the invasion of cosplayers. It was awesome seeing Downtown San Jose being infested and taken over by cosplayers and my fellow geeks and weebs. People might have been pissed by the traffic we caused and the endless lines we induced at restaurants, but we felt dominant! Made the city as “nigiyaka” (so to say) as San Fransisco is every night. It just made those four days and three nights so fun, and now that everything’s quieted down and returned to normal, I’m having post-con depression. 😛 I want Downtown Weebland again, dammit!
That being said, there were many great cosplays this year. I stopped to take a picture of almost every one of my favorite characters and shows whenever I came across them, but this is basically a list of my very favorite ones during the weekend. To those who didn’t make it into this blog post, I’d like to say that you definitely all made it to my Facebook albums. Just very wonderful memories overall.
Yesterday, I talked about how happy and excited I was about the Rurouni Kenshin revival that has been going on this year, and discussed how godly my hype is for the live-action movie.
But let me just clarify, I’m not only going to talk about notable shows/characters this year (best saved for a New Years post!), I’m also going be talking about activities I’ve been doing that are related to anime as well.
And with that, let’s get on with the second day… *kidnaps a bunch of singers*
On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
Continuing the planned series of Haruhi-rewatch blog posts that started with the first episode, during the beginning of 2008 (yes, I’m *that* bad). Considering it was 2008 back when I wrote that, these subsequent posts won’t be from the same viewing – by this time (the end of 2012), I’ve already re-watched the series AGAIN over thirty times (might be exaggerating, but it is one of my favorite anime and light novel series of all time). And, of course, I promised to resume this along with my Cardcaptor Sakura posts in my summer anime blogging list. This may also be the first in my series of “finishing things that were never finished being blogged as an apology for the fact that Mikoto is a lazy dirtbag that lets life get in the way too much” posts that revisits crap I never gotten around to finish blogging.
Same as the first post, screenshots are taken from my The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya complete first season set and I’m planning on doing these posts in chronological order. Oh, and guess what? I’ve brought Kyon back.
It should be noted that this is fairly old news, and that real life attempts at reenacting Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody have been happening quite a lot in Nishinomiya. This is a pretty good example of unhealthy obsession.
Since I’ve decided to rewatch The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya for the 1000th time, I thought I might as well blog about it. And since I have most of the DVDs now, I thought I’d increase my e-penis a bit by dazzling you guys with DVD-quality screenshots. Can you say, escapism? Good.
I’ll also be doing it in chronological order. Because, to be honest, I prefer it that way – the story flows much more smoothly compared to watching it in the original broadcast order (it was fun the first go around, though). Not to mention the fact that I can’t be assed to switch between DVDs while gathering up the screenshots in order to satisfy all your nonlinear needs.
Oh, and by the way, I’ve decided to let Kyon guest-blog for the day. Go wild.
So I finally bought my copy of the DVD 2 days ago (took me long enough, yes). Wanted the limit edition one due to the cosplay ribbon and the Noizi Ito art on the cover, but what was I supposed to do? 😛 Almost got a DVD where the plastic around the box was about to fall apart. Good thing I caught that in time. ^^;;
According to the August edition of Newtype, and a thread on Animesuki’s forums and 2ch, “Suzumiya Haruhi II” has been officially confirmed.
Haruiists are getting hyped up already and I can’t blame them. I guess the new PSP/PS2/Wii game was sort of a prelude to this, which makes more sense to me than my original assumption that it was announced upon the R1 DVDs getting released in North America. Why would they care about America?
Common sense tells me that we’ll have to wait until CLANNAD is aired and finished until we can see the second season of the Haruhi anime (KyoAni usually takes one project at a time!). So I have a feeling we’re gonna get lots of hype. ^^;;
Yup. A new The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya PSP game is set to be released on July 10th (9 days after my birthday!) by Bandai Namco (coincidence that Bandai was the one that licensed it in the US, hm? 😉 Maybe this game will see the light of day in the US after all).
All I have to say is… why PSP? I was hoping for more of a Haruhi DS game, since I feel they could do alot with the DS’s features. I’m not too fond of the PSP either (note: I’m NOT a Nintendo fanboy). Oh well.
The moment we’ve all been waiting for. Once that clock hits 12:00 AM (for those who live in the Pacific Time Zone like me…) it’s going to be Haruhi madness. Once it hits 12:00 AM, RUN TO YOUR NEAREST ANIME PROVIDER. RAIDAA KIKKU ANYONE THAT GETS INTO THE WAY. JACK A CAR… AND USE POINTLESS CAPS!
Or take the lazy way and clickclickclick on RightStuf’s website. EITHER WAY~
Once it’s in your hands, forget your sanity… DANCE THE HARE HARE WITH NO SHAME. MOAR MOAR MOAR. /meme MUHAHAHAHAHA.
… Haru-ism makes you overreact to Haruhi-related products. Eh, I’m probably gonna borrow one from a friend or something, because I may be buying it on my birthday or whatever. Did I mention I’m planning to have a BIG haul on my birthday? With yummy pics and all?
… Meh, I’ll buy one tommorrow. xD
<:3… I want the limited edition versionso badly but it’s waaaaaaay too expensive for me. But I want that pencil board and ribbon (not for wearing, for viewing. :3 I might give it to my girlfriend if I ever have one and make her look hot)!
