Can’t wait for Shakugan no Shana II

Ever since it was announced that Shakugan no Shana would have a second series, I have been having some… foretelling dreams, such as a barrage of giant melonpan pouring down on me and the big king squishing me, being stabbed fifty times over with a dozen of flaming katana, and a scary Kazumi trying to eat me. ANYWAY~

<:3 Waiting is no fun. So I’m going make the time go by with a countdown of Shana-foyboyism, every month until Fall.

Hitotsu~ First of the 6 things I love about Shana.

~FABULOUSLY hawt English.

It’s here! It’s here! It’s ALMOST here~

The moment we’ve all been waiting for. Once that clock hits 12:00 AM (for those who live in the Pacific Time Zone like me…) it’s going to be Haruhi madness. Once it hits 12:00 AM, RUN TO YOUR NEAREST ANIME PROVIDER. RAIDAA KIKKU ANYONE THAT GETS INTO THE WAY. JACK A CAR… AND USE POINTLESS CAPS!

Or take the lazy way and click click click on RightStuf’s website. EITHER WAY~

Once it’s in your hands, forget your sanity… DANCE THE HARE HARE WITH NO SHAME. MOAR MOAR MOAR. /meme MUHAHAHAHAHA.

… Haru-ism makes you overreact to Haruhi-related products. Eh, I’m probably gonna borrow one from a friend or something, because I may be buying it on my birthday or whatever. Did I mention I’m planning to have a BIG haul on my birthday? With yummy pics and all?

… Meh, I’ll buy one tommorrow. xD

<:3… I want the limited edition version so badly but it’s waaaaaaay too expensive for me. But I want that pencil board and ribbon (not for wearing, for viewing. :3 I might give it to my girlfriend if I ever have one and make her look hot)!

REFLECTIONS: Cardcaptor Sakura ~

Key that hides the power of the stars, show your true form before me.
I, Sakura, command you under our contract…
Release!

Admit it. No one decent in the anime fandom wouldn’t know about Cardcaptor Sakura. It will have, and always has, a place in my heart as the first anime that really touched my heart, and the first anime I love not being able to fully retaliate from a horrible, horrible re-write dub. I’m not even going to mention the crap I know as Cardcaptors after this sentence. Every single episode of the series has given me a warm feeling inside and made me feel good because of the lighthearted, yet well-developed characters and story. You just don’t feel like hating any of the characters… to me at least. The first anime where I really got attached to the characters like never before. It’s right up there next to Shana as my favorite series (Haruhi doesn’t count because it’s everyone‘s favorite 😛 /lawl). “Hoé~” will also always be one of my most beloved character mannerisms, right next to “Uruchsai uruchsai uruchsai!

MADHOUSE did a great job in animating it too, it looked like they put alot of effort in it like I know they did. I esspecially liked how they reanimated and redrew the spell sequences almost every episode (due to Sakura’s ever-changing outfits) instead of reusing the same stock footage over and over again. That‘s what I call quality work.

Though, I’d say, a big reason to actually watch it is the developement of Sakura and Syaoran’s relationship. Cute couple! Any anime fan who doesn’t know about these two, I’ll personally slap in the back of the head. I liked how Sakura grew from having a childhood crush on Yukito, to realizing that Yukito isn’t her “number one”, to realizing that her number one was Syaoran and how Syaoran delt with his feelings. My only gripe with the series is that it strayed too far from the manga’s ending. I mean, the last volume of the manga pratically focuses on Sakura’s realization of her feelings for Syaoran, while the anime really kind of rushed it at the end and saves Sakura’s confession for the last movie (which was still very good).

Also…

Does it look like she’d… well… make it? At least let us see their last embrace in the series to let us know if she’s alive or not! ;; lol

Many thanks to Geneon and Tokyopop for bringing Cardcaptor Sakura some justice in America with a good English dub of the second movie and bringing the manga (not the first edition. The first edition was yuck) to the United States!

Anime Review – Claymore (クレイモア) First Impressions

Claymore

OP: “Raison D’être” by Nightmare
ED: “Danzai no Hana~Guilty Sky” by Riyu Kosaka

Story Overview (from Wikipedia because I have no free time for my own written summary):

The setting of Claymore’s story is a fictional world with medieval technology. Politically, it appears to consist of a large number of scattered, apparently independent, towns. In this world, humans coexist with creatures called Yoma sentient monsters that feed on human innards. The Yoma, being shape-changers, can take on human form and live in disguise amongst humans. By consuming the humans’ brains, Yoma can also absorb their memories, allowing them to disguise themselves as specific people without alerting any of their close friends or family.

A nameless and highly secretive organization has created an order of superhuman warriors to protect humans from the Yoma. These warriors have come to be popularly known as Claymores, after the immense claymores they wield. Villages being attacked by Yoma hire Claymores to kill the Yoma for a large fee.

Anime Review – Lucky☆Star/らき☆すた Episode 04

Episode 4 – “Motivation Issues” やる気の問題

Brigade armband, desho desho??

Tsukasa = Akari Kamigishi from To Heart.
Yes, she’s going to make you cosplay. ~~

Konata’s tedency to procrastinate blossoms in this episode. Real suprise, huh? Actually… it’s just like me, actually. Wanna do homework… oh wait! I must go to the computer and play some MMORPGs first… Now then… Oh wait! My favorite show’s on… Okay, now… Oh wait! I must go to some internet forums for a bit. Okay now… wait, there’s nothing else to do. Oh well! Let’s just lay down and stare at the whole, I’ll get to it eventually.

I loved this episode. This episode was bursting with anime references, notably the obvious ones such as some TMoHS references and the To Heart reference. It’s Grade A+ really. The series is getting more and more laugh-inducing as each episode passes. That’s a good thing… right?

Anime Review – Lucky☆Star/らき☆すた Episode 05

Episode 05 – “Sharpshooter” 名射手
I M NOT A PRIZE!
“Whoa there! I’m not a prize, miss!” (Psss… That was me. ;D)

So I see no difference in the show after the directior change. However, I will say that this was, out of the 5 episodes, the best. Not only did I love the MMORPG references in this episode (Konata? A tank? NO WAI! Loved how Nanako-sensei bothered her about doing her homework during the game), I loved the Yukata everyone was wearing during the festival in this episode. Lucky Channel began too early though… Or, at least, I felt it began too early within the episode. As much as I love Lucky Channel, I kind of wanted to see some more adaption of the 4-koma, y’know?

Aside from that, I loved the obvious Pocket Monsters reference (Getto daze~! / Gotta Catch em’ all~!) and Konata’s karoke of CHA-LA HEAD CHA-LA at the end of this episode. Aya Hirano sure idolizes Kageyama Hironobu. x3

Today’s ending…

Lucky☆Star Changes Directors After Episode 4

Lucky ☆ Star

Source: ANN

Kyoto Animation posted a notice on its website that it’s replacing director Yutaka Yamamoto (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Air, Kanon) with Yasuhiro Takemoto (Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu!, Full Metal Panice! Second Raid) for Lucky ☆ Star.

For some reason, I’m indifferent to this. Maybe the people who didn’t like Lucky ☆ Star after the first, second, third and forth time may start to like it better after this? I dunno.

Episode 3 – “All Kinds of Peopleいろいろな人たち

This calls for some passion!
Passion

Another episode of cuteness and conversations about stuff I’ve never really thought about that makes me squeal like a girl. Yes, I’ve been taken in by the gimmick. 😛

So… in order to have a higher chance of winning a drawing, you must enter a hundred entries? Wouldn’t the cost of the postcards be greater than the prize itself?

Some things just can’t be bought with money. I love your thinking Konata! Tell that to those creepy old people that take part in enjo kōsai in Japan.

Prize drawings ———> twins? o.O I love how this series abruptly changes topics.

Kooooooona-chan! *slap*
“Koooooooona-chan!”

Hmmm… If Kagami and Tsukasa were to be identical twins (and technically take on the hair style of Tsukasa)… then Kagami would be suprisingly cute. But who cares?

FANTASIES = NO

I love her cranky personality much better. Tsundere~

Hmmm… what would it really be like to find out you’re really one-egg twins when all this time you thought you were two-egg twins? I would be pretty shocked. Of course, I don’t see much of a difference between Kagami and Tsukasa’s looks besides how their eyes and hair are drawn (they’re related characters so they can’t be so different either!). What sets them apart is their personalities. Kagami is soooo tsundere~ and Tsukasa is laid back and adorable.

Cookies =D
“This talk about black and white cookies is making me hungry!”

Tsukasa and Kagami’s favorite colors >>>>> black and white cookies??? xD Konata wins.

NOOOO!!! It's a TRAP!!!
It’s a trap!

No air conditioning is a bummer. ):

It's raining, it's pouring
I used to like rainy days because baseball games would get cancelled and I get to watch my anime.”

‘m behind Konata all the way! Baseball games always stand in the way of me and my cute little moes! Just kidding. 😛 A reply that’s expected from Konata. I don’t mind because they postpone Pokemon episodes, and I want to see the fanbase (or, at least, the English fanbase) squiiiiiiiirm. *cough*

The conversation about what they would wear on their marriage was of no use to me, seeing as I don’t plan on wearing a skirt on my wedding… (keyword is PLANNING (:)… and I probably wouldn’t wear a kimono because I’d most likely will get married in America.

... No comment...
Wow… she actually got owned.

I don’t really ask for help on video games unless I’m really stuck on someplace (*cough* multiple times on Zelda *cough*), because supporting Konata’s wise words, it would take a chunk of fun out of it for me. Now… will she actually do her homework… by herself?

Hmmm...
“Did you ever notice that detectives in anime and manga run into alot of murder cases?”

Do visual novels count? Because it reminds me of something I found on the internet…

...

… Did I just see a Cromartie High School reference?

Konata with a ponytail
Tsukasa with a ponytailKagami with a ponytail from behind
I love ponytails! So 萌え.

I don’t know if it was a certain… person that I know in real life that made me love ponytails… but I think I’m starting have a ponytail fetish. Taking these pics made me absolutely giddy.

Speaking of hair, I really never thought about how long Konata’s hair was. Damn.

RAWR
“Seeing people use them makes me angry.”

It’s true that collectors hardly ever touch stuff that they buy that relates to something they like. But even though being an avid fan of lots of things, I’ve always used merchandise that I bought one way or another. Maybe this is due to my hatred of my older half-brother not letting play with his Darth Maul action figure when I was little, and kept it in mint condition (even though the box was not so mint… dusty). I saw it as pointless because he eventually sold it (well… maybe not so pointless), which makes Konata angry too.

Today's topic... is Miyuki!
One of my most favorite parts of Lucky ☆ Star… Lucky Channel!

Akira’s not happy because Miyuki’s apparently a turn on. But don’t worry! Akira’s popular with the pedophiles!

Much better improvement over the last two episodes. This episode gave me much more laughs and smiles out of me than both of them put together, I’ll definately keep on watching. Heh… I liked how they somewhat acknowleged Aya Hirano as Konata singing the karoke of Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu!‘s OP in the ending credits… Switching her child-like voice to Aya-mode like that was a little wierd though (OMG HENSHIN??!!!!11).

Lucky Star

OP: “Motteke! Sailor Fuku” by Aya Hirano, Emiri Katou, Kaori Fukuhara & Aya Endo
Ending lol

Aya... err... Konata running

“Why aren’t you in any sports teams, Kona-chan? You’re so athletic!”
“…I’ll miss my prime time anime.”

Eh, I’ve seen some pretty harsh reviews on Lucky ☆ Star on some other anime blogs. But to tell you the truth, I don’t think it’s that bad. Sure, the first two episodes weren’t exactly exciting or anything amazing. My opinion is that only strong otaku, such as myself (not that I’m obsessed or anything…), or people with a strong love for cute characters (… Such as myself…) should watch this anime.

Actually, I think that the reason why Lucky ☆ Star seems to get some backlash by some anime fans because Kyoto Animation is being too faithful to the 4-koma, and too faithful with some of their anime adaptions in general. I’d really like to see alot of differences between the anime and the 4-koma in this case (maybe the series expanding on the 4-Koma strips? Like expanding some of them into a whole 25 minutes? That would be hard though. :3)… it would surely be a different feeling from the other series produced by KyoAni. Another reason would be the hype it put out due to some joke scanlations of the 4-Koma… leading to the disappointed to the anime fans that the series isn’t what they’d thought it be. But meh, I like it just the way it is currently. Cute characters, sort of funny, something to pass the time, and giving me new outlooks on life… and the opening is really catchy (motte ike saigo ni wara chau no wa atashi no hazu~! ^^ Oh god… I’m turning into a weaboo :<).

So...

Anime Review – ながされて藍蘭島 / Nagasarete Airantou (Trying to catch up…)

I have a life too, ya’ know. 🙁

Nagasarete Airantou

OP: “Days” by Yui Horie
ED: “Say Cheese” by Yui Horie

Yes, you heard it here. It’s a harem. Nagasarete isn’t really unique, but it’s a fun little harem to say the least. The characters seem likeable enough and its “WTF” moments, even though not extremely funny, is funny and entertaining enough to amuse me. Ayane’s voice is, however, annoying enough to make me want to slam my face onto my screen. It being a romance anime seems to add on to the flavor for me as well. It doesn’t win any awards, but who says something has to be “OMFG SUPAA AWESOME” for you to enjoy it? As I said, it’s a fun series and I will definately blog it (after episode three, that is).

Mikoto’s “Don’ts” on AMVs

1. Music that has nothing to do with the AMV at hand
This should not even be explained. No one wants to watch an AMV that’s, for example, about Flonne from Disgaea yet has “Rewrite” as the song from Fullmetal Alchemist.

2. Distracting Subtitles – Piracy Alert
Using scenes from fansubs for your AMVs shows unprofessionalism and unrelated to the quality of the AMV: shows how cheap you are by not buying the DVDs of the series you made the AMV about if it’s a license release (mainly targeted toward mainstream titles such as Naruto, Pokemon, etc.). The subtitles are also very, very disracting, esspecially when there are clips from an opening played together with the AMV’s song, the subtitles being very out of place (making it look very tacky) and colorful karoke typesetting makes it very hard to concentrate on the video at hand.

To put it short: Subtitles in AMVs suck, even if the AMV’s good when putting that aside. Raws or DVD rips, please.

3. Two or more themes in an AMV
I’ve seen happen alot in AMVs focusing on shippings and pairings. They focus on at least two anime pairings in one AMV. Now, it’s not bad, it’s just not fair to the people who don’t really like one or more of the multiple pairings in your AMV. And it’s also very annoying to see, for example, scenes of “Edward Elric x Winry” one minute, than “Kyon x Itsuki” the next, and alternating. It’s like wanting to read a book about apples yet getting random information on oranges every five pages.

Stick to at least one theme for more efficency please. Only do it when you could actually pull it off, thanks.

4. At least 5 minutes a scene, please – or else GTFO of Windows Movie Maker
Constantly alternating between scenes at an accelerated rate is annoying. Unless you’re trying to what the TMoHS opening does at 0:41, don’t switch between scenes like that. It hurts the eyes.

5. If you’re going to use pirated video rips, at least don’t use HK subs. Which is more distracting
Nuff’ said.

6. Use one piece of music please
We don’t need clones of the song montages of the dub Pokemon movie endings, thank you very much.

7. Original titles are better than just naming it after the song you’re using
Using original titles made by yourself for your AMVs instead of naming it after the song you’re using in the background or naming it (Insert series/character name) AMV is better, in my opinion. It shows your creativity, as well as showing your creativity as an AMV maker in the actual AMV. If the title’s crappy, than who cares, at least you tried your best naming it unlike the other lazy bums that name it after the background music.

Anime Review – エル・カザド El Cazador de la Bruja / “The Witch Hunter” – 01

OP: “Hikari no Yukue” by savage genius
ED: “romanesque” by FictionJunction YUUKA

OP Pictures:

Summary:

The introduction shows us a girl stained with blood, with a dead body in front of her and talks about a scentists called Maxwell and his rejected theories of manipulating molecules (“Maxwell’s Demon”).

A robed woman puts her head down on a table looking exhausted. A waiter come up to her and tells her that she has a phone call. Later, walking on the road, she tries to hitchhike a ride, but fails. When she finally got to a town, which appears to be a Mexican town, she spots a girl that was shopping and starts to follow her. She is eventually lead to where the girl lives, and it is revealed that she leaves with an old fortune teller (to whom she calls “Grandma”).

The scenes shifts to show a mysterious man and a little girl walking into a bar, ordering a beer and a milk. Then, a man went in and went to some of the other men sitting at the tables and whispered to them about something. As they ran out, some other men ran out too (apparently, the bar was full of bounty hunters). Somewhere in town, the same girl who the robed woman was following was outside busking with card tricks. After she was finished, she put a wooden box on the table informing her audience to put some money inside. The audience, however, laughed and walked away. About to leave, she saw some coins in the box. It was the robed woman from before who put them in. She expected a thank you, but the girl didn’t really care as she couldn’t even buy bread with such a small ammount of money. The robed woman askes if her name is “Ellis” and shows her a picture, but the girl deniesthat identity, either due to memory loss or to hide her identity.

Then all of a sudden, the bounty hunters from before showed up to take Ellis’s head for bounty, but the robed woman is able to fend them off, both of them escaping with her having a small wound. The scene shifts for a little bit to show a man in a city, on the phone while throwing darts at a picture of Ellis (some of the things in the office seem to have the words “Project Leviathan”). He gets a phone call from a woman named Hayward (who wears a mysterious pendant) and tries to ask him for something, but before she could the man hangs up on her telling her he is a busy man.

The scene shifts back to the fortune teller’s house. While the robed woman is getting her fortune told, the old lady talks about Ellis. She says she’s a strange one, but she’s a good girl. Ellis apparently wants to head south in search of something, but can’t leave the old lady alone. The old lady says that she’s better off with the robed lady and that she should protect her. Outside, Ellis sees two the the bounty hunters from before looking around the house. The robed woman took Ellis on top of a building to hide, and the scene shows us two… happy men being search by the police… and their happiness making them look like they’re getting slapped in the asses… (Oh my…). Anyway, Ellis decides not to go back to the house in order to protect the old lady from getting killed. The caped woman finally introduces herself – her name is Nadi, whose also a bounty hunter and says it was very nice to meet her. However, Ellis doesn’t give a “Nice to meet you too” but instead gives a “Everyone is after me because I’m a murderer…”. Suddenly, a big explosion comes from the fortune tellers house and Ellis rushes over there with Nadi trying to follow.

Ellis finds the house demolished with one of the two bounty hunters from before standing in front, then the other coming up from behind and pointing a gun at her – telling her to do what they say if she doesn’t want to die. Then, Nadi comes up from behind the gun-pointer with a firearm of her own, telling her to do what she says if he doesn’t want to die. Being a coward, he obeys and gets kicked in the salad bar. There was a stand-off between Nadi and the remaining bounty hunter. All of a sudden, Ellis seems to have used some magical power to heat up the gun so that the bounty hunter drops it, and makes it shoot him in the eye.

Ellis comes into what was left of the house to see the old lady on the ground. The old lady was very happy to see Ellis again and says she must remember to thank God for it. She gives her a mysterious stone, telling her to let it be her guide. Her last words are Wiñay Marka, which means “Eternal Place”.

The scene shifts to the same man who was on the phone before, watching a recording of Ellis manipulating the molecules in the gun (OMGZ I FIGURED OUT HER POWER!!!!!!! it was hard :O), starts clapping, a starts to have a toast to… “Project Leviathan”.

Blah blah blah random scenes that show the mysterious man and little girl riding the bus out of town.

Ellis tells Nadi that if she followed her, she’ll die. However, Nadi says that she promised “her Grandma” that she’ll take care of “her girl that knows nothing of the world“. Some bounter hunters come (which appear to be the… happy men from before), but they escape and hijack the happy men’s car (what a happy car it must be…). And thus, the two of them met.

Ending Pictures:

Thoughts: Another installment of BeeTrain’s “Girls with Guns”. I personally haven’t watched much of Noir or Madlax, so there’s really not much to compare, so none of that here. Even though I enjoyed the first episode of this series, I have just one major gripe:

BeeTrain’s recycled plots, same animation that doesn’t break itself apart from other BeeTrain series and pacing.

Alot of BeeTrain’s anime, from what I’ve seen, involve some sort of protagonist that tries to figure him/herself out or to find out who they really are and their past. That’s just an example of how some of BeeTrain’s plots are getting recycled and getting stale. This story seems to be the same only with a different twist… And using the same color pallettes over and over again makes all their recent productions look the same (sure, in my opinion, I think it looks nice, but c’mon!), and that really doesn’t make you want to oogle at how “unique” a series’ animation is when, technically, it doesn’t have any. The pacing in this series’ first episode was okay, faster than BeeTrain’s usual slow pacing (And even though I love slow paced shows which does give alot of time and room for character developement and story developement, using it this much is overkill, and sometimes makes it as if nothing has happened).

Anyway, the character designs look a little typical for BeeTrain, but the actual characters may want you to check out this anime. Ellis’s mysterious character, despite how cliched it’s getting in BeeTrain’s case, although they handled it differently in this series which puts a little uniqueness to the character and sucks you in, making you want to find out for yourself who the heck she really is. Nadi’s character isn’t all that interesting, though judging from other people’s opinion on the next episode, her character gets a little more respectable. And the supposed supporting character don;t do much in this first episode.

The interesting plot, however, will keep me watching. This anime has a plot that interests me and its not fair to judge only by the first episode (which does establishes the plot quite nicely). And despite her overuse in BeeTrain’s recent works, Kajiura Yuki’s music still rocks.

I know I’m being a little hard on BeeTrain, but talking about overuse and cliches aside, I do love their stories and their animation (some left much to be desired…).

This series… will be blogged but not blogged that much.

Anime Review: ハヤテのごとく! Hayate no Gotoku!/Hayate The Combat Butler – 01

OP: “Hayate no Gotoku!” by KOTOKO
ED: “Proof” by MELL

OP/ED Pictures:

I’ll start by saying that this isn’t my first “exposer” to Hayate The Combat Butler – I randomly read chapters 42-51 of the Hayate The Combat Butler manga (couldn’t get my hands on the rest of it though) and thought it was one the most highly entertaining things I’ve ever read. Watching the anime, I can’t say that the manga was better than the anime, do to me only reading chapters 42-51 (yes, I suck), but that just makes it bearable to watch do to me not knowing the differences in quality between the two, no?

Summary:

So the story revolves around Hayate Ayasaki, an unlucky boy who unluckily has terrible, terrible parents. No really, they’re terrible. THEY’RE FRIKKEN TERRIBLE. Both of them are “unemployed” bums leaving Hayate to work hiding his age (with him having to switch jobs every time because they RAT HIS BUTT OUT). Eventually they go so low as to abandon Hayate, take everything that was in the damn apartment, and leave him to pay a 156,804,000 yen debt to the yakuza.

Owned by Santa Claus.

Owned by Hayate Ayasaki.
After escaping through his window Mission Impossible-style, he sees a girl named Nagi Sanzenin and decides to hold her hostage for ransom.

No, for once the devil of our minds isn’t the one saying that…

However, he chooses the wrong choice of words and Nagi mistakes it for a confession of love. As Hayate tries to make the ransom phone call (and failing as he accidentally introduced himself when he called), real thugs show up and kidnap Nagi. Now, unlike Hayate, they actually chuck her into a car rapist-style and drive off. Laying in the freezing snow to his death, a girl arrives (Maria), shows him kindness and all that jazz, sees those thugs driving away with Nagi and with his heart so bright, steals the girl’s bike and goes to save her. BECAUSE KIDNAPPING’S NOT COOL.

After saving her, she’s in his debt. he tells her that she could find a new job for him as he falls on the ground injured (and as the censorship arrives). It turns out that Nagi is rich, VERY rich. This leads to Nagi deciding to make him her butler. Oh yeah, and a cool random helicopter appears.

W00t!

Thoughts:
What can I say? I guess I’ll tuning in. The anime has plenty of comedy (I esspecially love the references to other anime, like the statue of Conan Edogawa in the anime trailer and episode preview), good art (the character designs are pretty cute), a decent BGM track, decent voice acting (for the most part) and the narrator rules all. Spring is sure looking great right now.

“Be sure to watch anime at a good distance and in a well-lit room”:

/style ! 😀
