“Poses and trademark spells are the basics of being a magical girl!”
Tomoyo definitely is a wonderful friend. 😀 And extremely genre savvy to boot.
It’s not a stretch to say that Tomoyo is the greatest best friend character in any shoujo. No one can top her awesomeness, except for Sakura herself.
It doesn’t matter if it’s the first, second, or tenth time. Watching the first episode of Cardcaptor Sakura and starting the series up again will always be a magical experience! JOIN ME IN RELIVING MY CHILDHOOD.
If there’s one memorable scene from the first episode that reappears throughout the first season, it’s that shot of Sakura’s precognitive dream sequence where she’s standing in front of the Tokyo Tower. Definitely an animation highlight of late 90s shoujo, or anime in general.
Since the start of a few summer anime series have already begun, I guess it’s time to compile a list of the anime that I’m going to (most likely) be blogging about.
I also included a list of anime that I’ll be re-watching and blogging, since the summer season doesn’t seem to be too interesting, in my opinion.
Just posting to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Spend time with your loved ones, don’t be a recluse and spend all your holidays playing games and watching anime by yourself! Do it with someone or something, just be sure to spend time with your loved ones in one way or another. ^_^
I might have sounded a bit preachy there, but I finally got to see my relatives from overseas in Asia after not being able to see them all my life, after spending my recent years thinking the holidays were a lame excuse to be nice to people just to get presents when you can be nice to people all year ’round. It was a pretty good feeling, and I hope you all experience the same kind of joy this holiday season.
There’s probably not gojng be any substantial posting from me the rest of the year until 2011. Maybe a random post here or there about the series I’ve been trying to watch, and maybe even a New Years post. Other than that, I’m just going to chill for the rest of the year. See ya.
OH. MY. GAWD. KOBATO.
Despite my being giddy over the anime adaptation coming out when it was first revealed months ago, I never actually got around to watching it because I forgot about it being made (T_T). I wasn’t paying attention to CLAMP in general towards the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010, and frankly, I should stab myself for it.
Now that I have gotten around to watching, I must say, I’m impressed with what MADHOUSE has done with it. They’ve met my expectations and have earned more respect from me, on top of my already-high respect for them.
CLAMP, I’m tsundere~ for you.
Seriously, I think my inner Cardcaptor Sakura fanboy just squealed in excitement seeing that little CCS!Sakura cameo in this episode. <3 Wait… a CCS!Sakura cameo? What the hell were they thinking?! THAT’S JUST TOO F*CKING AWESOME! >D
SNAP. CRACKLE. POP. Syaoran loves his cereal.
That’s it. I love you Production I.G. ♥
Finally… Real!Syaoran enters the dream world using Seishirō’s reality-altering feather to recover Sakura’s soul (and we find out that Seishirō was going to give Syaoran the feather anyway and was just messing with him lol). However, Clone!Syaoran warps into that dimension too (and as he was entering the dream world, Watanuki, in yet another short connection to ×××Holic, disappears from it) and demands Real!Syaoran to hand over the feather to him.
After a tremendous battle… Real!Syaoran is now in flames and is on the verge of death (;;), with Sakura yelling “SYAORAN!!!” (notice the lack of suffix? T_T *is a Clone!SyaoranxSakura fan*).
At first glance, it seems Clone!Syaoran definitely has no hopes of returning to the way he was before the seal on his right eye was broken after this stunt (;;) . However… (SPOILERS AHEAD)
During the search for Sakura’s body (which was separated from her soul in chapter 149), we finally find out the truth about Fay’s past.
And I must say, Fay’s past has got to be one of the most gruesome origins out of all the characters in Tsubasa.
FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for this ever since it was announced. After the sham which was the Tsubasa Chronicle second season, I’m glad to say that these OVAs are giving the manga series some justice.
What kind of amazing story arc will I, the main character of the world, face? Seriously speaking, in my opinion, have you ever thought what it would be like to have a school life like it is depicted in some of those anime that take place in some sort of area with academic benefits (that aren’t realistic)? It would be interesting to think that, but honestly it might not go well.
Like in those anime based on dating sims, it feels good to think that you’re the main character (to quote Konata in Lucky Star 20) that a bunch of cute-looking girls in school, who happen to not have boyfriends, seem to fall head-over-heels with after a certain set of events, doesn’t it? Though, there’s always the possibility that you’ll end up as a runner-up male character that would probably get close to no attention from those other girls. Won’t feel good, huh? And if you pull the same bullsh*t that Makoto’s done in “his” anime… the end results won’t look so good.
Of course, there’s the non-dating sim anime that take place (or sometimes take place) in school. Anticipating your first day of high school only to find some weird girl sitting behind you obsessed with all things supernatural, and you ending up joining some club that puts your reputation in jeopardy. What’s so good about this? You have a tsundere crushing on you. (; And there’s the scenario where you’re living your ordinary high school life, where everything seems to be normal… only to suddenly be told you’re already dead by a mysterious loli with FLAMING HAIR AND BLAZING EYES. What’s so good about this? You have a tsundere crushing on you. (;
Then there’s the girls, who would probably have such a good time with their mahou shoujo henshin powers and whatnot… The only downside to them being in a shoujo series is that there’s a slight possibility of them being put in a bullsh*t relationship with the school’s local Gary-sue. ^^;; And of course, there’s also a slight chance of you being a dating sim anime choice, either having you be the “lucky girl” or having you be thrown in the background and treated like trash. But there’s still always hope of you becoming the SOS Brigade Leader and god of the world. Heck, you could be the “other” SOS Brigade leader, disguise yourself as a boy, and serve a club full of bishounens.
Hmmm… now that I read this whole entry again, thinking about school in real life… seems a bit boring now. ^^;; But that’s just the way I like it. So yeah, I’m just posting to say that I have school tomorrow and that I’ll cut down on the “posting once a day” thing – of course, I added a bit of my overactive imagination to the mix. lol
They’re like leeches. They’re cute. They’re fuzzy. They make you warm inside. Any guy that watches begins to notice a decrease in his testosterone level.
A new Tsubasa OVA animated by Producting IG (the company that animated the movie and xxxHoliC. Yay!) has been officially annouced. It will be about 3 episodes, with each episode included with each new manga volume starting 11/21/07.
1) The Magician’s Message
1st DVD w/ TRC volume 21 regular edition – out Nov 21, 2007, 3360 yen
(includes a storage case for all 3 with a new illustration)
2) The Boy’s Right Eye
2nd DVD w/ TRC volume 22 regular edition – out Jan 17, 2008, 2980 yen
3) The Dream the Princess Saw
3rd DVD w/ TRC volume 23 regular edition – out Mar 17, 2008, 2980 yen
We get to see the Acid Tokyo arc done properly (finally, we get to see the Real!Syaoran and our Syaoran’s psychopathic clone nature in action, animated!), probably with all the blood intact. I’m kind of worried about the character designs though, since I wasn’t very happy with the (sort of) distracting character designs in the movie. I hear they say the art is going to differ from the manga too… not giving me a good feeling.
On the bright side, I’m also confident about the animation since they’re no longer confined to NHK’s broadcast standards. ^^;
Title: Tsubasa Chronicle
Adapted from: Tsubasa -RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE- (Manga)
Production: BeeTrain, Production IG (movie)
The story is a crossover using lots of characters from past series made by CLAMP.
“Syaoran, a boy who wants to become an archeologist, and Sakura, a princess from the Clow Kingdom, are childhood friends with a close relationship. On a fateful night, Sakura lost all her memories as a result of a conspiracy to obtain her powers. In order to regain her memory, Syaoran seeks help from the witch, Yuuko. Yuuko tells Syaoran that he has to travel from one alternate reality to another to collect fragments of Sakura’s memory. However, even if Sakura regains her memory, she will have no recollection of Syaoran. Travelling together with them is Kurogane, a warrior who was exiled from his country, and Fye, a magician who wants to escape from his King. With the help of a magical creature, Mokona, they set off on an exciting journey through time and space.”
As a CLAMP fan, I quite enjoyed Tsubasa, yes. Or at least, the manga… the anime, however, left much to be desired. (;
“Key that hides the power of the stars, show your true form before me.
I, Sakura, command you under our contract…
Admit it. No one decent in the anime fandom wouldn’t know about Cardcaptor Sakura. It will have, and always has, a place in my heart as the first anime that really touched my heart, and the first anime I love not being able to fully retaliate from a horrible, horrible re-write dub. I’m not even going to mention the crap I know as Cardcaptors after this sentence. Every single episode of the series has given me a warm feeling inside and made me feel good because of the lighthearted, yet well-developed characters and story. You just don’t feel like hating any of the characters… to me at least. The first anime where I really got attached to the characters like never before. It’s right up there next to Shana as my favorite series (Haruhi doesn’t count because it’s everyone‘s favorite 😛 /lawl). “Hoé~” will also always be one of my most beloved character mannerisms, right next to “Uruchsai uruchsai uruchsai!“
MADHOUSE did a great job in animating it too, it looked like they put alot of effort in it like I know they did. I esspecially liked how they reanimated and redrew the spell sequences almost every episode (due to Sakura’s ever-changing outfits) instead of reusing the same stock footage over and over again. That‘s what I call quality work.
Though, I’d say, a big reason to actually watch it is the developement of Sakura and Syaoran’s relationship. Cute couple! Any anime fan who doesn’t know about these two, I’ll personally slap in the back of the head. I liked how Sakura grew from having a childhood crush on Yukito, to realizing that Yukito isn’t her “number one”, to realizing that her number one was Syaoran and how Syaoran delt with his feelings. My only gripe with the series is that it strayed too far from the manga’s ending. I mean, the last volume of the manga pratically focuses on Sakura’s realization of her feelings for Syaoran, while the anime really kind of rushed it at the end and saves Sakura’s confession for the last movie (which was still very good).
Does it look like she’d… well… make it? At least let us see their last embrace in the series to let us know if she’s alive or not! ;; lol
Many thanks to Geneon and Tokyopop for bringing Cardcaptor Sakura some justice in America with a good English dub of the second movie and bringing the manga (not the first edition. The first edition was yuck) to the United States!
