A mix of everything unsettling. Creepy little Japanese preschooler? Check. Angry ventriloquist girl with a puppet? Check. Creepy Japanese doll with disturbing teeth? Check.
Natsuno’s family is screwed! Probably not, but his mother really fucked them over by letting that creepy little thing into the house.

This scene can be deemed creepy and disgusting in any context.
Just when I thought his face couldn’t get any creepier, Masao just had to become a vampire. I knew it was too early to rejoice about him getting bitten – I saw this coming.

Finally, our two main characters are slowly beginning to realize the true plague causing the deaths in the village.
Unfortunately for Natsuno, crosses probably won’t do a thing against Shiki’s variation of vampires. That would be way too easy.

More plot-oriented shows should add an element of surprise to their shows and drop the episode previews altogether like Shiki. We all know by now that episode previews usually spoil the crap out of us.
Case in point: During last episode’s cliffhanger, I thought Tohru was going to die. At the start of this episode, it seemed like Shimizu attempting to feast on his blood was all a dream, which made me relieved (because Tohru is cool). And then, they went ahead and surprised me by having him die anyway. I like it when shows do that to me, and if Shiki had an episode preview, I would probably know for sure Tohru was going to die here.

The look on Natsuno’s face sums up my thoughts. Damn, this show is doing a good job at making me tense, especially this episode.
Return of the dead!

What the- Get this thing away from me!
My god. The vampires should just bite him already. Masao was not only creepy, but he’s pretty much the most annoying character this season has to offer. o_o I hardly know anything about how his mind works, or who the hell he is, but there’s something about him that just pisses me off.
If that’s the kind of character he’s supposed to be (no duh), the voice actor did a superb job. Of course, Shiki‘s doing a superb job of creeping me out in general. Wonderful atmosphere.

Diapers. I need diapers.
Things are really getting more intriguing with all the mysterious deaths going on.
Given my experience with the horror genre: Over a dozen of deaths with an unknown cause = “Aw shit, this town is screwed.”

A great opening episode that hopefully sets the atmosphere of creepiness and mystery for the rest of the series. The village setting reminded me a little bit of Higurashi.
(Yeah, looks like Shiki and Ookami-san are gonna receive the Chinese subtitle treatment for the rest of my blogging season…)

Pretty much all the confirmed shows I’m going to blog until the next batch of shows stick their ugly heads in.
I’m probably going to watch one or two more shows in addition to the ones I’m going to blog. However, I’m too much of a wimp to blog that many shows. That, and I have tons of video games I need to beat (and I have a hunch that a good amount of anime this season will disappoint me).
SO, NO SORRIES! =D I just finished up FMA: Brotherhood and will write a post regarding that tomorrow.
